The Clash Bash MST season was fantastic! The finals were incredibly exciting, featuring newcomers L1 Aryx and Theo Lowe.
Top 8 in the Clash Bash is Conquest with 2 different heroes and you have to win with both. Aryx and Theo each brought Iyslander and Ira, with the first game being a mirror match of Iyslander and was a game to remember. It reminded us how Clash really does have a lot of power cards despite being a budget format.
Even though only two players brought Ira, after the top 8 matches were finished, we gathered feedback from our community and concluded that it was essential to enforce a ban on Ira.
The Crimson Haze
Ira has been on our radar since the start of the Clash Committee. What to hit has always been the issue. We have had local communities that have banned Ira from being played because she is such a powerhouse.
One of the challenges we face is our attempt to follow LSS's guidelines, as they aim to ban or limit cards as a whole rather than for specific heroes. This approach is clearly demonstrated in their handling of Zen. While we have previously deviated from this rule, we did so by creating a special case within the Clash formats ruleset, where Rosetta Thorn became a Briar specialization.
Today we break that rule. Starting with the release of Rosetta we will be hitting Ira, Crimson Haze:
Harmonized Kodachi is banned in Ira, Crimson Haze.
This was a decision that was not taken lightly but as we broke down why Ira was so powerful, it was the fact that she can block for 6-9 and then turn back around attack for 1 and 2 power respectively. The fact that she can seamlessly go between attacking and blocking efficiently makes her incredibly strong with no weakness that typically comes with Ninjas. By removing Kodachi's we hope to mitigate her consistency with her 1-2 punch and make her earn that +1 power on the second attack.
Clash Bash Rosetta
In addition to Harmonized Kodachi being banned for Ira, we are also doing something super special only for the Clash Bash. We are removing the restriction on Rosetta Thorn so all Runeblades can use it once again and we are unbanning Duskblade!
After the season concludes, our community will have the opportunity to vote on how they felt about the changes. The Clash committee will then analyze the votes and data to determine if making this a permanent feature is desirable. This may become a recurring aspect of future Clash Bash events as we push boundaries and aim to enhance Clash as the premier young format.
